For the New Collector or Seasoned Collector, I thought I would discuss some doll terminology. I’m going to try to break down a few terms I know that I use a lot which cause some confusion. Mini Food artists or Doll artists tend to use the words Commissions or Custom Orders a lot.
It is basically a special requests/special order/ custom made item from the customer, for a product not available on the website or large quantities.
AA - African American Doll
Artist Doll - A One of a kind doll not mass produced.
Bisque - unglazed tinted porcelain
BJD - Ball Jointed Doll
Commission - Special Request Order, which is paid in advance
Custom Order - Special Request Order, which is paid in advance
Flocked Hair - short fibers glued to head as hair
OOAK - One Of A Kind
MC - Mint Complete abbreviation, out of original packaging
MIB - Mint In Box abbreviation (in original box)
NIB - New in Box
NM - Near Mint doll
OOB - Out Of Box
And for some really fun terminology taken from the Barbie Collector Website:
